Building a Computer

Our Dad's memorial service went very well. Thank you to all who attended. We have been overwhelmed at the support each of you have given us.

This past Saturday, Jonathan and I were invited to build a computer. Now as most of you know, we are not techies whatsoever, so this was going to be huge learning experience. Much to my surprise it was really easy, and was just like building an erector set. Now we can build a computer, but don't ask us to fix it. Here are some pictures of the process.

Yes, We Do Exist!!!

Now that no one reads our blog I thought I should probably make a post. Things have been pretty busy around here. As I am sure most of you already know, my Dad's cancer returned in full force this past January, and things have been touch and go for the entire year. You can see what has been going on at bryanpollock.blogspot.com.

I have also left the police explorers for various reasons, and have switched over to the Civil Air Patrol. Josiah, my younger brother, has also joined with me. It has been a lot of fun, and I would recommend it to anyone!!

A dream of mine also came true a couple weeks ago. For many many years I have wanted a dog, I am now the proud owner of a black lab named Duke. It has been a semi challenge training him, but slowly and surely we're getting there. I will try to upload pictures of him sometime soon.

I will try to update this thing better in the future!!

An Exposition upon the Biblical Justification for the War of Independence

This is an essay I was requested to write by my parents. In light of the holiday tomorrow I thought it applicable to publish this. I know this is a divisive issue. If you have bones of contention with me or questions, I would like to hear them. Please do not get me wrong. I am loyal to my country and am willing to lay down my life to annihilate any country that would try to mess around with us.

Here it is.......

The War of Independence has shaped not only America, but the world around us. As the land of the free, countless millions have fled tyranny and oppression to benefit from the freedoms we experience every day. For many Americans, the War was just and necessary. We were taxed without representation, and no longer served by our leaders. Politically, this was an appropriate answer. But as Christians we must ask, was this War biblically justifiable? I, for one, do not think so.

In evangelical circles this is a topic of much disagreement. It is difficult to say that our founding fathers were wrong in rebelling against the ordained authority. The central point of this position comes from Romans 13. In the text, Paul clearly states that all authority comes from God, and to rebel against that authority means you have rebelled against the ordinance of God. (Rom 13:1, 2) Since the King of England was the ordained ruler of America, he was the man deserving of our servitude and respect. Obviously, he made mistakes and passed law that wasn’t accepted by the Americans or the British. He was an imperfect man in a position of power in a fallen world. As a ruler he didn’t authorize anything deserving of rebellion. Had he openly gone against the Word of God and disobeyed God’s law we would have to enjoin with Peter in Acts 5:29 by obeying “God rather than men” but still swearing allegiance to the king’s civil authority. It has also been said, to discredit Romans 13, that the orders from Paul to obey our civil magistrates is only prescribing the way it should be and not imperative. The context of the text does not allow that statement whatsoever.

The book of Romans is divided into two sections; the indicative or doctrinal teaching, and the imperative or the command section. From chapter 1 to the benediction in chapter 11 we have the indicative section. Beginning in 12:1 we have a whole new tone of writing; the imperative. The opening of chapter 12 illumines this; “Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship… [Italics mine].” Presenting our bodies is not a doctrine we must learn and apply to our lives, but a physical disciplining of our fallen nature. Paul is no longer teaching them doctrine, but showing them the way a Christian must live based upon the previous doctrine. We can look back at earlier texts and see the doctrine he taught. In Romans 3, he taught that Jews and Greeks are all under sin; in Romans 5, that every man was a partaker in the fall of Adam through which came death; and the comforting doctrine of predestination and election Paul taught in Rom 8, to name a few. All of a sudden, however, we have a dramatic shift from the indicative to the imperative beginning in chapter 12.This imperative section does not end at the final verse of chapter 12, but carries over into 13, clearly making the obedience of our civil magistrates regardless of their secular beliefs or laws, imperative! The Puritan, Matthew Henry, in his Commentary on the Whole Bible, most likely used by 18th century preachers and theologians, understood the application of Romans 13 to mean obedience to all magistrates of any level:

“…Our Lord Jesus was so reproached, though he told them his kingdom was not of this world: no marvel, then, if his followers have been loaded in all ages with the like calumnies, called factious, seditious, and turbulent, and looked upon as the troublers of the land, their enemies having found such representations needful for the justifying of their barbarous rage against them… The Christians were then in those persecuting times obnoxious to the sword of the magistrate for their religion, and they needed not make themselves more obnoxious by their rebellion… God as the ruler and governor of the world hath appointed the ordinance of magistracy, so that all civil power is derived from him as from its original, and he hath by his providence put the administration into those hands, whatever they are that have it. By him kings reign, Prov. 8:15. The usurpation of power and the abuse of power are not of God, for he is not the author of sin; but the power itself is. As our natural powers, though often abused and made instruments of sin, are from God’s creating power, so civil powers are from God’s governing power…”

With commentators such as Henry, it is preposterous to claim that the interpretation of Romans 13 was different at that time period. Only preachers ignorant of exegesis, or intentionally twisting Scripture for their own ideology would be guilty of such a crime. Indeed there were such preachers. One in particular, Jonathan Mayhew, was not a biblically grounded preacher whatsoever. When it was time for his ordination, only two pastors appeared due to his radical views on salvation. In order to receive his ordination, a second summons was required and this time he was ordained. Through his preaching against the English Monarch between 1750 and the 1760’s, Mayhew has been credited as the instigator of much of the rebellion in the New England area. His sermons were not based upon properly exegeted texts of Scripture. He, too, read from Romans 13, but did not see the beauty of the sovereignty of God. His conclusion did not even come close to that of Robert Haldane, a Scottish theologian of the late 18th , early 19th century, who writes this in his great commentary on Romans:

“Resistance to the government, then, is resistance to God; because government is God’s ordinance or appointment. If God has appointed every government that exists in the world, His people are bound to submit to every government under which their lot has been cast. There is but one exception, and that is when anything is required contrary to the law of God. Then duty is plain. We are to obey God rather than men. The people of God, then, ought to consider resistance to the government under which they live as a very awful crime – even as resistance to God Himself. They are bound to obey, not good rulers only, as Dr. Macknight unwarrantably limits the words, but oppressive rulers also, if they do not command what God forbids.”

The Scriptures are clear; resisting a God-ordained authority is opposing the ordinance of God. In hindsight, the political motivations leading to the war were inadequate reasons for rebellion. There were no laws (that I have found) that clearly disobey the Word of God.

Well, what do we do now, born into a country that rebelled against its authority? We can be sure that what transpired did not surprise God. He has sovereignly ordained the rebellion and the foundation of this country. But a country born in rebellion, will be prone to rebellion. The nature of the American people epitomizes this. We hate to be told what to do, dislike interference from the government on any matter and revolt at the thought of our rights being infringed. So far our country has remained solid, in part because of the nature of the church around the beginning of our country, and God’s outpoured blessing upon us. We as citizens must be loyal to our elected leaders, even the ones we disagree with, pray for them, and participate in the election process that is part of our Constitution.

My Birthday

This past Monday was my birthday, and for the most part it was just a normal day. In the morning Mom took Sarah, Jonathan, and Me running. We came home and had a wonderful breakfast of eggs and hash browns. I then caught up on my school work, since the previous week I didn't do any. After dinner the Langfords came over for cake and games, they showed up around 6:30 and we started playing catch phrase. After that we had cake and I opened my presents. From my parents I got a chin up bar and dumbbells (that are coming), and from the Langfords I got a Monte Carlo cowboy hat. We then played several rounds of Mafia. It was indeed a wonderful day!!!!

Paging in Olympia

This past week I had the honor of paging, at our State Capitol. I was sponsored by Sen. Don Benton who my sibling and I campaigned for in November. The week was long and hard but definitely worth it. My days started at 5:00 am to get dressed, eat breakfast, read my devotions etc. And then at 7:00 my friend Devin Reilly, who was also paging, picked me up and headed to Olympia. Our work started at 8:00 at one of the four stations assigned to us, where we would deliver messages from one office to another, grab supplies for someone, or just sit and wait for a call. I would say that being on the senate floor was my favorite spot. You were able to watch politics in action, plus you were pretty busy delivering messages to the Senators from people on the outside.

For two hours every day we had page school. It was a program that helped us understand how our government works. During the week they had us do research and write up a bill. I teamed up with Devin, and we did a bill on the luxurious state of our jail system and how the inmates aren't being punished. If you want to hear more about the bill just make a comment. On Friday we had a mock legislature hearing in one of the committee rooms. That was a lot of fun and our bill passed with a vote of 2 nays and 3 ayes.

On Thursday, the Christian Homeschool Network (CHN) had their annual Day at the Capitol. I was able to on the floor while the senate passed the homeschool resolution, and it was great to see over 400 homeschoolers in the gallery's. Here is a video of the Homeschool resolution being passed, and you can see me behind the Senator. I am sitting down in the right corner wearing a Burgundy jacket. You can watch from the beginning, but I don't came in until 00:07:00

It was a tremendous experience and would highly recommend anyone to do it!!!

Here is an alarming video, courtesy of the sons of Ishmael, that drips with the "peaceful" religion of Islam. We are in Iraq and Afghanistan killing these people so they don't kill us. We need to stay there until the job is entirely done.

Our southern border needs to be secured, and more agents need to be present, authorized to use lethal force at any inclination of harmful behaviour or intentions.

We can find comfort when we hear the wicked rail against us, because we serve the One, True, Living God, who is in control. Let us not fall prey to fleshly fear but rest in His sovereign hand.

I cannot vouch that this is a straight across translation. However, the participation of the audience and the speaker's use of English words coincide with the subtitles. As a result, I am left to guess that what he is saying is the same as the subtitles.

Homeschooling Stereotypes

Homeschoolers seem to be recipients of some pretty cruel stereotypes. What's really sad is the fact that in some cases they are true!!!

The best stereoptypes actually come from homeschoolers themselves. We know when the subject matter is truly rich. These following videos are examples of homeschoolers who understand the value of making fun of themselves.

A Much Needed Update

Alright guys, now that is has been over one week since Jonathan did a semi-post, I thought I should make a real one!! Once again it's December, which means that are lives are very hectic with birthdays, Christmas parties and Christmas. Last weekend was the busiest we've had all year. It all started with caroling on Friday night with our church. It was pretty fun, except the fact that no one was home, so we did a lot of walking and getting cold. It was worth it in the end though, because once we got back to the church building there was a lot of cookies and cider.

Saturday was the craziest day. It started in the morning with the premiere of the film Dialtone, which was done by a Christian film group in our area. After that we had a Christmas party at Fort Nisqually for the A/I's. For those of you who are not familiar with Fort Nisqually, it is a living history fort, and A/I stands for apprentice interpreter, which is a program for high schoolers who volunteer and re-enact. The party was fun, we danced, ate pizza, and talked. From Fort Nisqually we all went to Fort Steilacoom who was having their candlelight Christmas tour. It was sweet! Everyone knew how to dance, so we didn't have to waste time learning the dances.

On Sunday we had our Christmas party. After our church services we had a banquet of prime rib and turkey with all the trimmings. During the meal we had a program for families to show their talents. Once we had everything cleaned up, we started dancing. The party was supposed to go until 6:00, but it started snowing pretty hard and everyone left around 4:00. It usually takes us about half an hour to get home, but to due to ice and traffic it took us a whole hour.

This is an informing video on the chokehold the news media has on the uninformed voter. The media machine must be CRUSHED!!!! Or, you should have to pass an IQ test to vote. People need to do their research before filling their ballot.

I understand that people have done their research and came to the conclusion that Obama was the candidate capable of taking the country in a direction they agreed with. I respect their opinion and am content as long as they did their research. Though I disagree with that decision, I am thankful that I have the freedom to disagree. I am afraid though, that the media is censoring the truth. As my father says, "the fourth estate has become a fifth column." This means that the news media is working behind the scenes to destabilize our government and promote a socialist agenda.

It is time America moved on, quit reveling in the election of the blank screen, and fight for our freedoms! I for one shall pray for our leadership and trust in the sovereignty of God, knowing that He knows the outcome.

Today is the 43rd anniversary of Operation Hump, during the Vietnam war. The 173rd airborne brigade was performing a seek and destroy mission, when they ran into a Viet Con regiment. Heavy fighting ensued and there was heavy casualties on both sides. Company C got the full blunt of the attack, while company B was able to flank the Viet Con and force them to retreat. A few weeks ago, while I was practicing the bagpipes I received a telephone call. It turned out to be a guy named Larry Faulk, who was running for state senate in our district, and asked me if I was interested in campaigning for him. I decided, that since we haven't had a Republican in the state senate from our district in twenty years, it wouldn't hurt to support this guy. Not being in the nicest neighborhoods, I was a little hesitant about door-belling though. Mom and I went out the first time, and after a couple of houses I got used to it, and it wasn't too bad. For the most part it was uneventful. The second time Dad took Sarah, Jonathan, Me, and Esther, and was more like what I had expected. We passed a house that was boarded up by the city, a few wild dogs, and Democrats! Sarah got the majority of the democrats, who told her they "only vote for democrats."A few days later Dad, Sarah, and I went out and finished passing out the brochures that we had left over. We went to one house that had an Obama and union worker bumper stickers. Sarah decided she wanted to deal with these people, so went and rang the door bell. A lady came to the door, and when she learned that the guy we were campaigning for was running for the state senate she told Sarah very rudely, " I'm not interested,"and then closed the door. As we were walking away she yelled after us and said, "The Republicans have sure made a fine mess of our government." We asked a friend of ours about this lady, who lives a couple of doors down from where this lady lived. It turned out that the lady was a friend of our current senator. Yesterday, Jonathan and I went door belling with Larry Faulk in our neighbor hood. That was pretty fun!! Larry Faulk also told me that if he wins, I will go to Olympia with him as his page. So, If any of you are in the 27th district please vote for Larry Faulk, and send me to Olympia!!! I will go down there and shake things up, along with Dino Rossi and Larry!!While McCain and Palin will shake up Washington D.C!!

To tell everyone the truth, in my neighborhood tagging is illegal.

Anyway... On with the randomness.

1. On occasion, I refer to myself in my mind as a SPEND. SPEND stands for Self Proclaimed, Eccentric, Nerd. I add the D so the acronym sounds cool.

2. I've lived in America all my life.

3. I am not technologically Savvy.

4. I prefer dressing in the 1930's-40's style but have been forced to modernize.

5. I don't shower every day.

6. I only have 24 teeth in my mouth.

Fencing Anyone?

David and I had the priviledge of building a fence. It took us about four days to complete, not including clearing and grading. We could've had it done sooner but David measured wrong and we discovered that our (I mean his) holes were off line and too far apart!!!! Because I was doing my Algebra, I wasn't able to follow up on his measurements. As a result, we had to pull the posts and re-dig which meant we lost an entire day of work.

On our second day of work the posts were secured in their correct positions. You can bet that we were extra careful in our measuring, digging and cementing.

This picture doesn't need a caption, it speaks for itself. Look at how the shovel lays in the wheelbarrow and how the greenery all around acts as a frame. Notice how everything looks drab until David's pants gives it this look of life and activity.

If you have observed, Sarah always seem to take a stab at me with every post she makes. I have decided to do the same with this blog. Although, I will be using pictures of David. Here is the first.

A couple weeks ago we witnessed several Hispanics moving in to the house next door, which is completely gutted, with out water, electricity, and a former meth house. We being law-abiding citizens, and knowing that the house is not in livable condition, called the police. They came pretty quickly and caught the intruders red-handed. Here are some pictures we took of the action...

1. Go to the Goodwill Store and buy a pair of men's work boots, size 14-16 (well used).
2. Place them on the front porch along with a copy of Gun and Ammo magazine.
3. Put a couple of BIG dog dishes next to the boots and magazine.

Big Jim, Duke, Slim and Me gone for more ammo. We'll get back in about 1 hour. Don't mess with the pit bulls --- they got after the mailman this morning and messed him up real bad. I don't think Killer took part in it, but it was hard to tell from all the blood. Anyway, I locked all the dogs in the house. Better just wait outside till we get back.
